The Play is set in 1980 during the Russian Olympics. The characters consist of undesirables sent away from Moscow to make the city more appealing to the rest of the world. the building had many uses throught it's life. It is implied that the space was once a mental hospital, a barn, and a church. I looked at menbtal asylums, and the wooden architecture of Russian churches as inspiration.
